The Pieve di San Martino is located in Colle Val d'Elsa (Siena, Tuscany), along the Wine Route and it is close to one of the most beautiful stretches of Via Francigena.
The Pieve di San Martino (before Niccolò) existed from the beginning of the twelfth century as a suffragan of the Pieve a Elsa, and has repeatedly been named in the papal bulls. The Church, with the gabled façade, has the characteristic facing a two-tone bands.
On the right side are the remains of a massive bell tower, which was surveillance and sighting of the Via Francigena.
The Via Francigena (generated by the ancient Via Clodia) has long been one of the most important lines of communication as connected Rome with the regions of northern France, and there is convogliavano large human flows and direct return from Rome.
The Pieve di San Martino was a place of rest and meeting the long and arduous journey of the pilgrims and is still a meeting place between people of different nationalities.
